Over the centuries , the world has undergone a sea change so much so that Graham Bell too wouldn’t find anything familiar in it except for ‘Hello’. Medicine & surgery updated means of transport overhauled, technology revamped but education continued in the same old, unimaginative, rote way with its most important component, students ill-equipped to face life. The 21st Century has seen a visible paradigm shift in the role of education in life. World over, educationists, sociologists, psychologists are on the same platform regarding the 21st century life-long skills that spell the difference between success and the how one deals with failure.
Professionalism, work- ethic ,team-work, collaboration, critical thinking, global citizenship , environmental literacy, e-learning environment were among the few ranked higher than science knowledge which was at no 17 in the list of 20 skills imperative for high school graduates. Multi –faceted activities designed under the International School Award are meant to enhance the above skills as students plan , execute numerous activities in collaboration with each – other. Moving on to the path of becoming a Global Citizen – a Caring Citizen of the World towards Each Other and the Environment
One of the activities to inculcate among the youngsters a feeling of community brotherhood as well realise that they are a part of a solution was an outreach programme where students wholeheartedly contributed books, storybooks, dictionaries & stationery items to see teh dream of Library for students of Bal Bharti Public School come true . The school is a unit of Balgran, SOS village for destitute children in Channi Rama , Jammu. Our school also built a wall to wall glass cupboard for the books. The programme was under the flagship of UN. International Day of Charity with special assemblies at school where Mother Teresa was commemorated . Teachers from England, Sarah Bunting and Kathyrn Thompson, took a keen interest in the success of the programme and were also a part of special assembly at Bal Bharti Public School, Video of the assembly is posted at the Facebook page . The very same activity was done in collaboration by our international partners Goshen school, in Ghana and Habib’s Girls School in Pakistan
The students of VII & VII standard went On to a Voyage of Discovery , taking their literature stories a step ahead by researching France and Japan. The gathered information was further scrutinized for similarities and anatomised for differences with our motherland, India the students divided into groups put information on paper and into creative beautiful boxes which were exchanged , notice boards displayed both the countries , this was further followed by a worksheet and quiz in class. The boxes were displayed in FA3 parent teacher meeting. This activity has partner school in Bangladesh.
India is a nation who is home to all religions and accompanying festivities , for this activity we have International Partner in England , St John’s School and Sana Ama Jana Girls High School Afghanistan , a celebration of Diwali, Eid and Christmas where we share how and why we celebrate our festival. Diwali was celebrated with great gusto within our school portal .Do watch the dance videos and be spellbound as well melodiously sung bhajan.
BETER PRACTICE THAN PREACH - DRAMATISE AND IMBIBE English inter - house one act play on 6th October 2016 was about sterling qualities one should imbibe.
The talented youngsters didn’t lecture but through plays fulfilled their aim to emphasis on sterling qualities one should imbibe. Selected team of students from four houses planned out a drama around a virtue they would want their peers to imbibe. It was a character building exercise to make the upcoming gen next better human beings through a visual aid, the favourite of the students.
It was to amke the students understand that it is virtues & good deeds that make a person respected and remembered, a cut above the rest Observation, problem solving & critical thinking skills upgraded. Artful storytelling skill was amplified, creativity was nurtured, mind was opened to new ideas. Mature into a person who will to go for the right choice even if it is difficult. Learn to appreciate strengths and differences, build an atmosphere of mutual respect. .
The students of Culture House came up with the most important message life is like an echo, all comes back the good the bad the true, the false. My personal favourite .Karan Gupta X D and Parth Gupta X A bagged the best actor certificates. Parth, well he is multi talented blessed with a beautiful voice .Ariha and Mrigu shone being multi faceted whether it be debate or essay writing . A thought provoking drama by the talented students of Legacy House. A drama which makes each one introspect what is religion , the role of padre, pandits and maulvi., God where art thou? Divansh Rajput IX F as an eunuch will stun you with his acting prowess. A well acted play. Budding actors of Dignity House spoke against today''s superficial culture where everyone is busy in collecting material wealth and when one's dear family members depart one just is interested in property ,not mourning out dear departed. Madhav XC, Reena Taj XE n Shiv Bajaj IXA were awarded best actor certificates . The dramas are uploaded on ISA Facebook page
Besides these, there were celebrations of Earth Day through a multitude of competitions like english elocution, hindi poetry recitation, poster making competition; English inter house one act play was about sterling qualities one should imbibe , Projects on earthquake and how one would act if caught in one also one of where students would understand the concept of Northern & Southern Hemisphere as to how it affects climate.
