Heritage School, Jammu, celebrated its Primary School Annual Function (Classes I-II) on Wednesday, 12 Dec, 2018 at Gen. Zorawar Singh Auditorium.
Mrs. Anuradha Gupta, KAS, Director School Education Jammu, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.
Kumar Vanishree N. Verma of class 1, welcomed the dignitaries and the parents after lighting of the traditional lamp. The programme commenced with the school choir- Minstrels of Melody rendering soulful medley of songs showcasing their vocal talent. ‘KILKAARI – THE SOUND OF JOY’, a musical bonanza of foot tapping performances interwoven with the fairy tale of Hansel and Gretel, asserting the pleasure of learning by self discovery, was the theme of the cultural programme that followed after the choir. Depicted through the eyes of the mother, as she watches her children Harsh and Geeta revisit the fairy tale, the programme highlighted the children’s employment of a more mature intelligence to interpret their past experiences. It witnessed participation of about 400 students who worked tirelessly to put together and present the show. The message conveyed was that the children should be taught how to think, not what to think.
The guests and the parents highly appreciated the tremendous efforts of the children with thunderous applause which was a testimony to the children’s zeal and enthusiasm.
It was a proud moment for parents of Puneesh Puri (II-D), Rahat Khursheed-Ul- Islam (II-D), Rabinav Kundal (III-A),Pranvat Singh (III-D) and Shreyas Magotra (III-D), as they received the ‘All Rounder’ trophies for the academic year 2017-18 from the Chief Guest. Puneesh puri of Class II-D brought laurels to the school and was felicitated for being an outstanding sportsperson for the session 2018-19.He has won seven gold, one silver and one bronze medal in skating at various levels and has been selected for CBSE Nationals at Chattisgarh. Mr. Sunil Gupta, the Chairman of the school, presented the Chief Guest with a memento.
The Chief Guest, in her address, appreciated the efforts of the students and the teachers for putting up the excellent show. She reiterated and emphasized on the fact that the children should be taught how to think and not what to think. She added that children need role models and are good observers. Hence it is up to the elders to be very careful of their conduct. She pointed out that we need to address their emotional needs as well in order to make them strong enough to face the world.
Mrs. Vandana Jasrotia, Headmistress, Heritage School, extended her heartfelt thanks to the invited dignitaries, members of the media and the parents. She also extended her thanks to the students for their astounding efforts for the hugely successful show put up by them. She stressed on the importance of inculcating critical thinking and problem solving skills in students from an early age to help achieve their goals.
