WORKSHOPS ON GENDER SENSITIV

Heritage School, Jammu, conducted a thought-provoking workshops on ‘Gender Sensitivity and Awareness’ for students of class VIII and IX on the 19th and 20th of December 2023. The primary objective of this workshop was to instil a more inclusive and informed mindset among the budding learners.
Facilitated by the dynamic Ms. Riva Shandilya Thakur, an alumnus of Mayo Girls’ College Ajmer, the workshop was an amalgamation of extensive academic prowess and diverse experiences across education, community service and professional roles. Ms. Thakur currently engaged as a Customer Service Representative and English Mentor Tutor for girls students of Afghanistan and is herself currently pursuing dual majors in English and Psychology from Western University, Canada, has showcased remarkable dedication through volunteering and innovative initiatives for societal betterment. In the year 2019, she donated all her to cancer patients from the lower socio-economic strata, who couldn’t afford wigs through Medat Foundation; displaying her commitment to societal causes as well as challenging social constructs of beauty. Her leadership roles in Model UN, debating, community service and editorial work underscore her commitment to fostering education, societal awareness, and inclusivity.
The engaging session delved deep into various facets of gender sensitivity, with a focus on fostering respect, equality and an understanding of diverse perspectives. Employing interactive tools such as presentations and videos, Ms. Thakur effectively captivated the audience. The workshop encouraged students to participate in interactive discussions, engaging activities, aimed at cultivating a more empathetic and inclusive approach towards gender-related issues and societal stereotypes.
The Vice Principal, Ms Rashmi Thakur expressed gratitude by presenting school memento to Ms. Riva, acknowledging her impactful contribution to the workshop. Heritage School remains committed to further empowering its students through such invaluable sessions, fostering a more enlightened and inclusive generation.
